Students, alums, and future music industry professionals, it’s that time of year again! Rock On! Summer Workshops this season will be from July 15th to July 26th- two weeks of remarkable music education and experience in being in a performing rock band!

Blues guitarists Andrew Cohen, Tyler Fairbank, and Arthur Holmes will join singer/songwriter and slide guitar specialist Robin O’herin for technique classes and workshops on The Blues: The Roots of Rock and Roll.

Andrew Cohen will spend the entire two weeks at Rock On and is looking forward to forming a blues band with students, and says he’ll throw a little jug band in there too!

Drummer Brandon Lewis, a Rock On alum and a graduate of the Collective in NYC, will teach Beat Making Workshops with singer/ percussionist Carmen Estevez and saxophonist/music producer Troy Simms of the Brooklyn Gypsies.

Brandon will demonstrate the use of Ableton Live, loop-based software music sequencer and digital audio workstation for OS X and Windows. Live is designed to be an instrument for live performances as well as a tool for composing, recording, arranging, mixing and mastering. It is also used for beatmixing of tracks by DJs, as it offers a suite of controls for beatmatching, crossfading, and other effects used by turntablists, and was one of the first music applications to automatically beat match songs.

The Brooklyn Gypsies bring a blend of jazz fusion, afro latin, flamenco, reggae, dance electro, and blues to their work. Check it Out!

The Rock On Summer Music workshop in the Berkshires is designed for young players of ALL levels – whether they are at beginner, intermediate or advanced skill levels. All levels participate fully in the Rock On experience. Register for  1 week or 2!

For students who are at the beginner level, or who have less than a year of training, we offer a program that will increase their musical knowledge as well as their playing and performance skills.

A typical day at Rock On includes workshops, instrument training, guest master classes, daily ensemble rehearsals and repertoire class. And it’s a LOT of fun!

The repertoire class will consist of pre-selected music that will prepare students to perform together with interns and instructors at the Rock On Concerts are held each Friday during the workshop.

The beginner students take part in all scheduled activities and workshops, including meeting with guest instructors and performers.

Students work together as a team in rehearsals and classes to learn to help create musical friendships and promote a feeling of community and belonging, and to develop a musical-social network. Part of the lesson plan will be learning the fundamental skills of their respective instruments as well as basic performance and stage management skills.

All instruments are welcome in the workshop-guitar, bass, drums & keyboards to cello, vocals, horns and more. Instrument classes will run approximately one hour.

Rock On Young Musicians Workshop runs from 11:30am to 5:00pm Monday through Friday each week it is offered.

Students may bring their own lunches or eat in the cafeteria during lunch break.

Rock On! is celebrating its 10th anniversary with Play it Forward, a special concert at the Colonial Theater on October 19th to benefit the Rock On! Scholarship Fund.

Headlining the concert are former members of BOSTON, guitarist, Barry Goudreau and drummer, Sib Hashian.

While touring with the multi-platinum selling band Boston, Barry and Sib rocked arenas around the world and played on the band’s first two albums, Boston and Don’t Look Back. When released, Boston was the fastest selling debut album of all time.

RockOn is pleased to announce the 2012 Guest Artist lineup – Pat Pattison, an internationally renowned professor of songwriting whose former students at Berklee College of Music include John Mayer and Gillian Welch; Steve Adelson, one of jazz music’s finest Chapman stick players; Frank Bellucci, an outstanding performer, educator, and clinician endorsed by Sabian Cymbals, DW Drums, Vic Firth Drumsticks, and Evans Drum Heads, and Barry Goudreau, former guitarist with the band Boston. All guest artists will teach master classes, coach bands, and participate in Rock On’s ‘Concert at Noon’ series which is free and open to the public.
